Splatterware, Handmade in Italy

Nothing about this pattern is subtle. That's rather the point.

Our splatterware is a full range of glazed stoneware, hand-finished in Italy with a flecked pattern that lands differently on every piece. Plates and bowls build out a full place setting, while serving bowls, platters, pitchers, cake stands, candle sticks, and countertop canisters carry the pattern off the table and into the kitchen.

Pick one colorway and commit, or mix two and let the table look like it happened over years rather than in a single order. There's no wrong way in—every shape holds its own.

 

What's in the Collection

Eleven shapes, six colorways, one pattern. The range covers a full place setting, the serving pieces that come out when there's company, and a few kitchen objects that never quite make it back into the cupboard.

Here's a quick breakdown of what you'll find:

  • Dinner Plates: 10.75" across, sized for weeknight dinners, Sunday suppers and second helpings. Sold in sets of four.

  • Salad Plates: 8.3" for sides, small bites and dessert. Stacks under the matching dinner plate, or adds pattern to a mixed table.

  • Large Bowls: 7" wide and 4" deep—pasta, grain bowls, a generous salad, cereal at seven in the morning.

  • Mugs, Serving Bowls + Platters: The pieces that come out when there are more than two of you at the table. Serving bowls and platters are sold singly, mugs in sets of four.

  • Canisters: Three sizes for spices, pantry staples and snacks. Storage you'd leave out on purpose.

  • Crocks: 6.25"DIA x 7"H for utensils, wooden spoons, or a fistful of something from the garden.

 

Six Colorways, One Pattern

Every colorway is a base glaze plus a contrasting fleck, which means the same shape can read warm or cool depending on which pair you choose.

 

Building a Splatterware Table

You don't need the whole collection, and starting small is genuinely the better plan. This is the order we'd buy in from an empty cupboard:

  • Start with dinner plates — one colorway, one set of four, and see how you feel about it in a month.

  • Add salad plates — same colorway for a matched set, or a second one for contrast.

  • Then the bowls — large bowls pull double duty across dinner and breakfast.

  • Finish with something to serve from — a platter or a serving bowl is what turns a set of dishes into a table.

 

Is Splatterware Dishwasher and Microwave Safe?

Ours is—every piece in the collection is both dishwasher- and microwave-safe, which is the whole reason it belongs in the rotation instead of the cabinet you never open. Most vintage splatterware isn't. The traditional version is enameled metal, which can't go in a microwave and chips along the rim with use.

The difference is the material. Ours is glazed stoneware rather than enamel, so it takes heat, takes a dishwasher and takes a fork without complaining. Handmade also means variation: the splatter falls differently on every piece, so no two plates in a set of four are identical.
